Turn Florida Blue! +1 in Mason-Dixon Poll

We got to get Florida switched to swell Obama's Electoral lead.

Mason Dixon polled this past Sunday thru Tuesday night and they show Obama ahead 45-44%.

The only way I can access the poll so far is through the polltracker on TPM. Click on the poll on the top of the list and it brings up a PDF:

I personally don't hold Mason Dixon in very high regard--they are not as accurate as some claim them to be. But they usually aren't kind to democrats in the South, and Florida is at least partially in the South. So here, this pollster, this place, a 1 point lead may portend something more.

I'm waiting for a "concerned" commenter to pop in and tell us it's good news for the Republicans and that Obama should be up by 50 points.

Where is "I'm a vlouteer, but" Obamagurl? I'm sure she has to be concerned about peaking too early.

FWIW a Strategic Vision (GOP organization) poll shows McCain up 7.  I think the truth is somewhere in between, McCain has a narrow advantage in the state carried over from past Republican strength there, but Obama is more competitive than I thought he would be in that state.  Remember those polls showing him down double digits in Florida?  They weren't so long ago.  Obama has gained significantly in the state and I would be shocked if he didn't improve on Kerry's 5 point loss.

Re: Turn Florida Blue! +1 in Mason-Dixon Poll (2.00 / 2)

Kerry's 5 point loss was during a period when Bush the incumbent won nationally by 2.5 points and the Florida state economy was much stronger than the national economy. None of those variables are in play this time.

If Obama wins the popular vote by 2-3 points he has every opportunity to drag Florida along. The state has classic swing state numbers, 20% liberals and 33% conservatives. The goofs who have been dismissing Florida are blindfolded simpletons who can see state polls and little else.

Recency is not as important as foundational truths. I learned that in '96 after sticking everything I could find in Excel databases. The states function in the voting booth based on their liberal/conservative breakdown adjusted by the landscape of the given cycle. This cycle is tilted in our direction.

Mason Dixon polls conservative. So if they show +1 for Obama so I will think it is 3 or 4 points higher. So thats a good thing. Now lets build on it.
